理解极光和北极光

The aurora borealis, or northern lights, is a natural light display caused by the interaction between solar wind particles and Earth's magnetic field. When charged particles from the Sun collide with gases in Earth's atmosphere, they emit light of various colors, creating the spectacular aurora we see in the night sky. The best viewing conditions occur during high geomagnetic activity (Kp 4+), clear skies, and dark nights away from light pollution. Aurora Go tracks these conditions in real-time using data from NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center.

How to Use Aurora Go

Aurora Go provides 20 curated viewing destinations across 8 countries with 47 recommended spots. Monitor the Kp index for geomagnetic activity levels, updated every 5 minutes from NOAA. Use our interactive map with 6 layers including OVATION aurora probability (updated every 15 minutes), cloud cover forecasts, light pollution data, and real-time user sightings. Check 13 live webcams from research institutions across 6 countries to confirm actual conditions. The moon phase indicator helps you plan for the darkest nights, which offer the best aurora viewing conditions.
