Queenstown in New Zealand's South Island offers opportunities to witness the aurora australis (southern lights). While requiring strong geomagnetic activity, displays over the stunning mountain scenery are unforgettable.

March to September (Southern Hemisphere winter) is aurora season. Strong solar activity (Kp 5+) typically needed. The longer winter nights provide more viewing opportunities.
